Everton Mid Season Review 2020/2021

The toffees came into the season with high hopes. Ancelotti was given the backing a manager of his quality deserved. He knew what he was getting with Allan and James Rodriguez too, having previously managed them. The other two big signings being Ben Godfrey and Doucoure. They too offered assurances to the Italian, having proven themselves in the division already.

A strong start to the season with 4 wins came to an end with a draw in the derby at home to Liverpool, drawing 2-2. That was the start of a run that saw them win 1 in 7. Following that, things have picked up significantly. I feel they even have the chance of quietly sneaking into a top 4 position by the end of the season.

Weaknesses

It should be interesting to see how the team perform if they are forced to play without talisman Dominic Calvert Lewin. The Englishman has stepped it up this year and has a good chance of finishing the season as top goalscorer. But without him, they’d struggle. Probably forced to the drop the current formation, 4-3-1-2.

Though Tom Davies has finally found some consistency to his game. He has slowly improved but I can’t yet say he has proven to be good enough to start for a team targeting a top 4 finish. If Tom Davies doesn’t show more by the summer, a replacement would help the team grow.

January Transfers

Their activity in January was quite underwhelming. They only signed Josh King on the final day of the window. I’m unsure if the Norwegian has enough quality to push Richarlison out of the XI though. Not a good sign, considering the Brazilian’s form hasn’t been great. At the time of this review Richarlison has only netted twice.

Predictions

If any team were to disrupt the bookmakers tips of the top 4 being City, United, Liverpool and Chelsea, I fancy it to be Everton. They’ve done a good job against the teams around them. Recently salvaging a draw against United at Old Trafford and beating Leicester away too. A home win against Chelsea and Arsenal, an away win at Spurs and their draw with Liverpool have done enough to convince me they have the quality needed to push for a top 4 finish.
